Goal: $250,000 for University of Florida HSV Research
Our goal is to raise $250,000 to help fund the University of Florida HSV research pre-clinical trials for HSV1 and HSV2.
The University’s researchers, led by virologist Dr David Bloom, hope to use a tiny DNA-splicing mechanism to disable herpes within the body. The technique uses special enzymes called hammerhead ribozymes. These cut into vital components of the herpes virus, causing it to become inactive.
The technique appears to work in animals, but has yet to be tested in humans. The University hopes to raise more money to bring the research to clinical trials.
